where to go
BY SEA
The Cap de Creus Reserve
The most spectacular sites are barely 4 miles from Empuriabrava, in the "Cap de Creus" peninsula that stands 10 kms out to sea, forming a very broken coastline with its high cliffs, wind-beaten islands and eroded rock reefs, beautiful panorama, hidden coves with transparent water that can only be accessed by sea. The vines and olive groves are entwined on the mountainsides in stone-held terraces of arable land. The coastal ports are home to small fishing fleets. Three years ago Cap de Creus was declared a natural reserve and is currently the biggest in Europe.
The Medas Islands
Just 12 miles away is the small archipelago of the Medas Islands (surface of 21,5 hectares). It is formed of seven islands and some reefs, and is located barely one mile away from the Montgrí coastal range (geologically the islands are a part of the range). It is considered to be a place of extraordinary biological and ecological value because of the large variety of species and surroundings that are of scientific interest. It is a landscape of unique beauty in Catalonia.
Cadaqués - Port Lligat
In the heart of the natural reserve, 12 miles by sea, is the bay and village of Cadaqués that served as inspiration to the universally renowned Salvador Dalí, and to many other artists. It is an ideal excursion by boat on a sunny day, leaving from Empuriabrava.

Cala Montjoi
Four miles by sea, and located in a charming cove, is the restaurant "El Bulli". Rated with three stars by the Michelin Guide and winner of the National Award of Spanish Academy of Gastronomy, the cuisine presented by the restaurant "El Bulli" has created a gastronomic culture. After 10 years of hard teamwork, its chefs Ferran Adrià and Juli Soler have managed to convert a day spent in this splendid cove Cala Montjoi into a dream.

The Empuries Ruins
Seven miles from Empuriabrava and accessible both by land and by sea, are the ruins of Empuries, the landing point of the Greek civilisation when they arrived on the Iberian Peninsula more than 2,500 years ago. Later on it was occupied by the Romans and finally abandoned in the course of the second half of the 3rd century AD.
The archaeological works were started in 1908, and to date only 25% the site has been excavated.
